Overview
As Mixed Reality devices become more prevalent, there's a growing need to bridge the gap between traditional 2D applications and immersive 3D environments. Volumetric Apps explores how we can extend familiar productivity tools like Microsoft 365 into volumetric space, creating new interaction paradigms that leverage depth, spatial understanding, and natural human movement.
Challenge
Traditional 2D interfaces are designed for flat screens with mouse and keyboard input. When transitioning these applications to Mixed Reality, we need to rethink fundamental interaction patterns: How do users navigate through volumetric content? How do we maintain familiar workflows while introducing spatial benefits? How can we make 3D content creation accessible to users accustomed to 2D tools?
Approach
My work focuses on creating intuitive interaction models that feel natural in 3D space while maintaining the productivity and familiarity users expect from Windows applications — designing gesture-based controls, spatial UI elements, and volumetric visualization patterns that work seamlessly with Microsoft 365 in Mixed Reality environments.
